The US Open Championship is held every year here in the United States for two weeks from late August to early September. It is the last of the Grand Slam tournaments and was first held in 1881 on grass courts. The US Open has continued to occur at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City since 1978. When the tournament was first held it happened in Newport, Rhode Island.

Recent champions of the US Open are Rafael Nadal (men’s singles), Leander Paes/Radek Stepanek (men’s doubles), Serena Williams (women’s singles), Andrea Hlavackova/Lucie Hradecka (women’s doubles), and Andrea Hlavackova/Max Mirnyi (mixed doubles).
