The Blues look to erase the stigma that has haunted them since their inception to the NHL in 1967. The Blues are the longest running NHL franchise to have never won a Stanley Cup. It did not take the franchise long to reach the pinnacle of the league. From 1967-1970, the NHL had a playoff format that made it mandatory for one NHL expansion team to reach the playoffs. The Blues managed to reach the Stanley Cup finals in three straight season. Every season ended in defeat. All 0-4 sweeps, two straight at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens and the third by the Boston Bruins. Three straight cup appearances, no hardware to shwo for it. The drought continues in St. Loui, but the near future looks bright.
With key players such as captain David Backes, T.J Oshie, Kevin Shattenkirk and Alex Steen, The Blues may be able to end their Cup drought in the years to come. After a 4-2 series loss to rivals Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the playoffs last season, The Blues are looking to advance further this season with the added postseason experience from last season.
