Marcus Mariota returns this season from a knee injury that left him to fall short of expectations with already owning school records for highest completion percentage, and most rushing yards by a quarterback. If he is to remain healthy this season, expect Mariota and the Ducks to fly high to enter into a playoff bid.

Having lost Tyler Johnstone last season to an ACL injury in the Alamo Bowl, the Ducks will have to lean on Hroniss Grassu to lead their offensive line which made a school record last year of 7,345 yards in total offense. Along with their five starters from last years Alamo Bowl the Ducks have depth, seeing how well Tyrell Crosby and Andre Yruretagoyena respond to opportunity for playing time.

At receiver the Ducks have Keanon Lowe who will look to have a bigger role with Daryle Hawkins and Josh Huff gone to the NFL, and Bralon Addison out for the season with a knee injury. Johnny Mundt, Pharaoh Brown, and Evan Baylis all look to be fighting for a spot at tight end while running backs Thomas Tyner and Byron Marshall’s complimentary skills are drawing comparisons to back duos of Maurice Morris/Ontario Smith and Jeremiah Johnson/LaGarrette Blount.

The Ducks defensive line will have to do better in responding to opposing running offenses. Defensive line coach Ron Aiken is vying to motivate his big tall bunch on their defensive line. Also, the Ducks will need to address the linebacker position and their secondary both areas they had breakdowns with last season if they hope to close in on the playoff picture.

Oregon Football Schedule 2014

The Ducks are ready for some signature conference and non-conference games, including a tilt against Michigan State. Pac-12 games are always exciting, especially with the offensive numbers some of these teams put up, and Oregon is as dangerous as any of them.
