More About Miami Marlins
Established: 1993 (Miami Marlins since 2012)
Stadium: Marlins Park
World Series Titles: 2 (1997, 2003)
Notable Players: Gary Sheffield, Ivan Rodriguez, Luis Castillo, Juan Pierre, Josh Beckett, Miguel Cabrera, Giancarlo Stanton, Jose Fernandez
The Miami Marlins joined the Colorado Rockies in the expansion class of 1993, and they have only made two postseason appearances in that time. The team has made the most of them, though, winning the World Series both times. The Marlins haven’t been able to sustain the success of those teams, and in 2012 the team moved to a brand new ballpark in Miami to try and change things up.
So far, so good. The Marlins are surprising everyone in 2014 by staying near .500 and staying within shouting distance of the Wild Card race. Young slugger Giancarlo Stanton is taking a huge leap this season and the Marlins are getting great production from the young rotation even without injured ace Jose Fernandez.
Even if the Marlins don’t make the playoffs in 2014, they are making strides to show they can compete in the National League much sooner than most of the league thought. With a healthy Fernandez in the fold and more experience for the young offense, the Marlins could really make noise next year and beyond. Grab Marlins tickets and watch one of the most exciting young teams in baseball this season!
Miami Marlins 2014 Schedule
The Marlins host plenty of talented teams at Marlins Park, including the dangerous frontrunners in the NL East. The Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves always play the Marlins hard, and when the Tampa Bay Rays joined the league in 1998, a natural in-state rivalry grew. As the Marlins continue to improve, their rivals will only continue to grow, and Miami still has a shot at the postseason in 2014.
