The Houston Astros have yet to win a World Series title in their 52 years of existence, but that isn’t for lack of effort. The Astros became a fixture in the playoff picture in the 1990s thanks to stars like Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio. The Astros made their lone World Series in 2005, but were swept by the Chicago White Sox in four games. Houston hasn’t been back to the playoffs since and has only posted two winning records in that time frame.

But the future isn’t as grim as one might think. While Houston hasn’t posted many wins in recent years, they have already equaled their 2013 total in mid-August of 2014. Shrewd and low-key acquisitions have netted the Astros cheap, young talent. Players like Jose Altuve, George springer, Chris Carter and Jason Carter are developing on offense while starters Dallas Keuchel and Collin McHugh are gaining valuable experience. It may not be instant gratification, but Houston is certainly on a slow and steady path back to prominence, and might be competing in the AL West after jumping over from the NL Central in 2013 soon.

Minute Maid Park continues to be a fine ballpark to take in a game. The stadium contains many quirks, like a very short left field wall and a small hill out in center field that can turn routine fly balls into adventures. For a great baseball experience, get your Astros tickets and head to Minute Maid Park this season!

Houston Astros 2014 Schedule

The Astros have been in the National League for most of their existence, but in 2013 the team moved to the American League. Playing in the NL West means matchups against some of the toughest teams in baseball. The Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers all field tough teams every year. It’s never a dull moment when any of those teams are in town, so check out the rest of the Houston Astros 2014 schedule and head to a game this season!
