The Dallas Stars have created a hockey culture in Texas that had previously been an untapped hockey market. Originally the Minnesota North Stars, the franchise made the move south in 1993. Proir to the construction of the American Airlines Arena in 2001, both the Stars and the Dallas Mavericks played their home games at the Reunion Arena.
During the final years in Minnesota, fan attendance was down and the franchise was losing money. Owner Norman Green relocated the franchise to Dallas. On October 5th, 1993 The Dallas Stars won their first game of the season 6-4 against the Detroit Red Wings. The franchise was building for the future. In 1999, led by MIke Modano and Brett Hull, the Dallas Stars were Stanley Cup Champions.
Last season Dallas returned to the playoffs. They lost their opening series 4-2 to the experience Anaheim Ducks, but the future for Dallas is looking bright. Expect to see them around the 8 teams in the west competing for a playoff position. Stars tickets will be going fast this season.
