More About Buffalo Sabres

Buffalo Sabres

Established: 1970

Stadium: First Niagara Center

Stanley Cups Won: 0

Notable Players: Dominik Hasek, Gilbert Perreault, Rick Martin, Danny Gare

Rivals: Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators

The name held true during the alliance of the French Connection, when Gilbert Perreault, Rick Martin and René Robert would lead the team to the quarterfinals in the 1972-73 season and then the Stanley Cup finals in 1974-75. This Finals series included the famous Fog and Bat Game 3 when conditions led to the arena being clouded with fog and all but hid the puck from spectators. During this game a bat flew across the ice and was swung at and killed. The Sabres live up to their name again.

The Sabres returned to the Finals in 1998, but were defeated by the Dallas Stars with a controversial goal that would send the city of Buffalo into an uproar. Brett Hull’s skate was in the crease when he scored the game winning goal, but officials let it go. The crease rule was changed the next year, in part because of the protest by Buffalo fans.

Moving ahead, the last few seasons have been difficult for the team. The 2013-14 season was disappointing, involving a butt goal and the dismissal of two coaches. This season ushers in a new regime for the Sabres, and fans are hopeful that they will return to former glory. Now’s a great time to get your Buffalo Sabres tickets and watch them in action.

Buffalo Sabres Schedule 2014-15

The Sabres open the season at home this year against the Blue Jackets. They’ll play their usual Atlantic Division opponents and wrap up the season against Penguins on April 11th, 2015. With average ticket prices of $78, you should check the Buffalo Sabres schedule and grab some cheap Sabres tickets.
