Bengals Won't Give Palmer What He Wants

Via ESPN:

Bengals owner Mike Brown insisted on Tuesday that he won't trade quarterback Carson Palmer , who wants to leave one of the NFL's least-successful franchises. Palmer, who has four years left on his contract, told the team in January that he would retire if he's not traded. The Bengals have only two winning seasons in the last 20 years, one of the worst stretches of futility in league history.

The 31 year old from USC threw 26 touchdowns, 20 interceptions, and compiled an 82.4 Quarterback Rating last year. The Bengals have made the playoffs just twice with Palmer, losing their first game both times. In the 2005 playoffs against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he suffered a nasty knee injury during his first pass of the game; he was forced to leave and the Bengals lost 31-17. Cincinnati lost to the New York Jets 24-14 in the opening round of the 2009 playoffs. Palmer went 18/36 for 146 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.

Carson signed a contract. He made a commitment. He gave his word," Brown said. "We relied on his word. We relied on his commitment. We expected him to perform here. He's going to walk away from his commitment. We aren't going to reward him for doing it.

The quarterback is not the only high profile Bengal who has had desires to leave the organization. Chad Ochocinco demanded a trade a few years ago, but did not get his wish. He's still holding out hope that he'll get out of Cincinnati. The Bengals drafted Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green in the first round, leading one to believe that they are ready to move on from the outspoken receiver one way or another.
