With Kane Out 12 Weeks, Blackhawks Season Hangs By A Thread

Patrick Kane Out 12 Weeks

In this article…

It is not a great time to be a Chicago sports fan. Not only did the city lose Derrick Rose from the Bulls, but it lost forward Patrick Kane from the Chicago Blackhawks. Kane will miss approximately 12 weeks after having surgery on his fractured left clavicle. This injury is a huge blow for the Blackhawks. Kane leads the team in goals (27), assists (37) and points (64), and he does so by a wide margin. The next closest Blackhawk in points is center Jonathan Toews, who has 49.

Chicago currently sits in 4th in the Western Conference, and the Blackhawks will have to ride out at least the rest of the regular season without Kane. The season ends on April 11, and the playoffs don’t start until a week after, but with his current timetable, Kane would only be able to come back for the Western Conference Finals. Without Kane, it will be extremely tough for the team to advance two rounds in the playoffs.

The good thing for the Blackhawks is they do have a lot of talent behind him. Captain Jonathan Toews will have to step up quite a bit to fill Kane’s void. Other forwards like Patrick Sharp and Andrew Shaw will see their roles increase, and Coach Joel Quenneville has to mix up the rotation as well. The trade deadline is also approaching, so expect the Blackhawks to be active, and maybe make a deal to bolster their roster without Kane. It will be anything but easy for Chicago the rest of the way, but if any team could do it is them. Their roster has been tested, and what better way to rally around the loss than to win and make sure he can get back on the ice this year?
