Adrian Peterson Reinstated by Vikings

Editor's Note: This decision seems entirely distasteful to me. While the Wilf brothers are adamant that their decision to reinstate Peterson is in the best interests of the legal process, it's really in the best interests of their bottom line and getting fans to come to Vikings games. - Ross

Adrian Peterson has been cleared to practice with the Minnesota Vikings today after missing the team’s Week 2 matchup versus the New England Patriots. Peterson did not attend the Vikings home opener against the New England Patriots where the Vikings were thrashed 30-7 on their home field.

Peterson was temporarily deactivated from the Vikings after he was indicted on charges of negligent injury to a child. The Vikings organization believed they took the right measures in the handling of the issue, particularly due to its timing only a week after Ray Rice was suspended indefinitely for domestic assault of his wife, Janay.

With the NFL cracking down on domestic and family violence in lieu of the Ray Rice saga, Adrian Peterson is perhaps receiving more flak due to the timing of his actions. With Ray Rice receiving his indefinite ban last week for assaulting his wife in an elevator, evidence from Adrian Peterson’s family could not have come at a worse time for the NFL who are still under fire from their handling of the Rice case.

The Minnesota Vikings take on the New Orleans Saints in Week 3. Adrian Peterson will practice and attend meetings all week, and he will likely be in the lineup on Sunday. The Minnesota Vikings organization prefer the legal process to take care of the matter, as Peterson has yet to be found guilty on any charges.

If Peterson is convicted on one count of injury to a child he can face up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
