Legendary Guitarist Vernon Reid Still Rocks Out

by Photo of Liz Ramanand

Decades after Living Colour, Vernon Reid jams with his new band played at City Winery.

Known for the epic funk punk 80's band Living Colour, artist Vernon Reid still has the edge and shredding skills decades later.

Reid has released numerous solo projects which combines heavy rock guitar riffs with jazz elements.

He has also collaborated with artists such as William DuVall of the band Alice in Chains.

Canadian band The Barr Brothers opened up the show which seemed like a slow set at first but it quickly picked up.

They showed their versatility as band members switched to different instruments, the harp player also played the drums, the drummer played the ukulele and the bassist also served as the pump organ player...yes a pump organ.

They performed an enjoyable set and gathered fans for the nights headliner Vernon Reid.

During his performance at Reid was possessed by the music, feeling every note he played.  He had charm and energy with his band mates on stage who were all powerful and talented musicians.

Reid was humorous and engaging to his fans and he even made light out of the frustratingly hot weather by calling the stage a "convection oven".

He represented his Brooklyn pride to the fullest by performing a reggae influenced song dedicated to the neighborhood of Flatbush Avenue.

Vernon Reid is always up to no good while making great music.

He will be playing a show in Philadelphia on July 15th and again in New York City at B.B Kings on November 27th.
