Earthquakes goalie scores from his own box

In the third minute of an exhibition match between the San Jose Earthquakes and West Bromwich Albion yesterday, this happened:

The goal, scored by rookie David Bingham, was his first since high school, and lifted the MLS squad to a 2-1 victory over West Brom, who plays in the Barclays Premier League. West Brom is on a preseason tour that includes two more U.S. stops, one at Portland to play the MLS's Timbers, and one against USL Premier Development League squad Ventura County Fusion.
Manager Roy Hodgson of West Brom has stood behind his goalie:

" The goalkeeper's kick-out had the most ludicrous bounce I have seen in a long while and went straight into the goal... He would [had] no chance...It was just the bounce of the ball." - wba.co.uk

If you watch the video, Myhill is glaring straight into the sun, and reacts late to the ball, which takes a perfect bounce over his head. It's an unfortunate thing for him, but my thought is that rather than play it off like you meant for it to go into your own net, give a good effort, and don't worry about looking like it took some effort. Then fun stuff like this happens:
