Brooklyn's Free Afropunk Festival Lineup Revealed

This year's Afropunk Festival lineup, to be held in Fort Greene's Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn, New York, was released just yesterday. D'Angelo, a widely popular R&B artist who has been consistently delaying an album for nearly 12 years, will be headlining the festival. Afropunk will span the two days of Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24.

The festival will feature a variety of artists ranging from R&B to neo-soul to heavy metal genres. In their own press release, they described the event as "a celebration of all the diverse communities populating the modern DIY landscape".

Along with celebrating diversity, it has also taken a firm anti-hate stance in the same press release, asserting that they will enforce maintaining peaceful vibes and respect for all who attend throughout the festival:

Performing artists include SZA, Ice-T's Body Count, Shabazz PalacesLianne La Havas, Trash Talk, The Internet, Fishbone, Alice Smith, A Tribe Called Red, UNiiQUE, and many more that have yet to be announced. As the list grows, a series of DJs and underground artists will also be appearing at the festival.

The festival is free to anyone who decides to attend, although you can purchase a "Fast Pass" ticket as a form of donation. For more information on Afropunk 2014, head over to their website.
