'Key and Peele' Win at Peabody Awards

Key and Peele, the sketch comedy show on Comedy Central starring Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, hasn't won any Emmy awards. At least not yet. But this morning, they took home a much more meaningful award than an Emmy. Key and Peele was among the recipients for The Peabody Awards.

Key and Peele is adored by viewers and critics alike. It's one of the smarter sketch shows on television, and the way it can target racial topics and more generic topics makes it quite unique. Here's what they had to say about the show:

"It’s like Abbott and Costello Meet Richard Pryor when the duo of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele fearlessly apply their mischievous minds and satirical savvy to racially aware sketches both broad and incisive."

I was a bit cautious of the show when it was first announced. I knew Key and Peele from their work on MadTV, and while it was funny, it was far too broad and kind of one-note for my taste. But any fears I had of the quality quickly evaporated when I started to watch. The show is leaps and bounds better than what they were doing on MadTV, and it should be a staple of Comedy Central's programming for a while (or until they move on to even bigger and better things).

Check out some of the sketches that show just how subtly and uproariously funny Key and Peele can be:

Some other notable winners in pop culture are the Netflix series House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, the Frontline special League of Denial on concussions in the NFL, the Kerry Washington series Scandal, and BBC's Orphan Black. The 73rd Peabody Awards will be televised for the first time on May 19th on Pivot network and hosted by Ira Glass.
