Listen: 'Fever' by The Black Keys

In this article…

The Black Keys announced they are coming out with a new album this weekend. That album, Turn Blue, arrives on May 13 via Nonesuch Records. The band released the first single, "Fever," today. It's going to take subsequent listens to get a real feel for the track, but it seems a little more pop and not enough rock for me.

I have to agree with Will Oliver of We All Want Someone To Shout For, who wrote this of the song:

"The duos departure from their blues-inspired garage rock sound continues. Although I was (for the most part) digging the new sound that found them on their last few releases, I’m not too crazy about 'Fever.' While some may argue that some of their more recent releases at least had some strands of their old selves, it seems like they’ve all but shed that skin with the new song."

I love Danger Mouse as a producer, but I think he might be guiding Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney away from their true blues rock wheelhouse. Either way, it's still an enjoyable enough track and hopefully one that will lead to some harder stuff.
