Serena Williams is Latest Wimbledon Casualty

We all might as well stop trying to predict what happens in this 2013 edition of Wimbledon; we know absolutely nothing. Top-ranked Serena Williams fell to (23) Sabine Lisicki ot Germany today 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. Williams was up 3-0 and 4-2 in the final set, but Lisicki battled back to pull off the latest in a slew of upsets at the All England Tennis Club.

Serena is gone. Maria Sharapova is gone. Victoria Azarenka withdrew due to injury. Both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were upset on the men's side. And this is only the fourth round. I can't remember the last time a major tournament saw this much carnage at the top of the seedings.

Thankfully, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are holding up on the men's side. Both players won their matches today, keeping their potential finals meeting in play. Only three of the top 10 seeds are alive on the women's draw, and the highest-seeded player is Poland's Agnieska Radwanksa. I like that there is some parity throughout the tournament, but the downside to parity is a slightly less compelling tournament down the line.

Hopefully that isn't the case with the rest of Wimbledon.
