Blackhawks Take Game 5, Bruins Face A Must-Win Game 6

On Saturday night, the Chicago Blackhawks took a 3-2 lead over the Boston Bruins in the race for the Stanley Cup with a 3-1 win in Game 5. The Blackhawks are one game away from winning their second Cup in 4 years, and their fifth title.

Blackhawks' star forward Patrick Kane scored two big goals during the game. With 2 minutes left in the first, Johnny Oduya's long slap shot broke the stick of Boston defenseman Dennis Seidenberg. Kane was able to score as the puck trickled off to the left side of the net for his second playoff goal. Kane's second goal came five minutes into the second period on a backhanded goal as he beat Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask top corner.

Blackhawks Goaltender Corey Crawford had another great outing, making 24 saves and nearly shutting out the Bruins. Center Jonathan Towes had two assists in the game and won 9 of 12 faceoffs, energizing the Blackhawks offense, before leaving the game with an upper body injury. Forward Bryan Bickell played a physical game ending the night with a team high six hits and finished with an assist.

Zdeno Chara scored early in the third to make it 2-1, but Boston never broke through again. Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask was pulled as the Bruins tried to send the game into overtime but Blackhawks center Dave Bolland sealed the victory with an empty net goal in the third.

Game 6 is tonight, Monday night, at 7 p.m. CT.

The Bruins certainly won't go down easily as both teams will be fighting: the Blackhawks for the Stanley Cup, and the Bruins for a chance to continue on. The Bruins have experience in the playoffs under Claude Julien, making the playoffs in all six seasons he has been head coach. Although the Bruins face elimination tonight, they are 9-4 in games where they could be eliminated. And they have home ice. Those are good numbers to have on your side.

Without a doubt, Game 6 will be hard-fought and as exciting as the previous five games.
