All-Star Saturday Participants Announced

The NBA All-Star Break is just around the corner (already next weekend!), and now the complete roster of participants taking part in all the All-Star Game contests/events was announced last night. Here's how things shake down:

Friday: BBVA Rising Stars Challenge

Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley drafted their teams of rookies and sophomores live last night. How neither used their first pick on Kyrie Irving still astonishes me, but Shaq didn't let him fall too far and drafted him third. The pairing of Lillard and Irving should be incredible, but Chuck assembled quite an imposing frontcourt with Anthony Davis, Kenneth Faried, Tristan Thompson and Nikola Vucevic. He also got a steal in the fifth round with Ricky Rubio. Here's how both teams look:

Team Shaq: Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving, Andre Drummond, Klay Thompson, Harrisn Barnes, Chandler Parsons, Dion Waiters, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Tyler Zeller, Kemba Walker.

Team Chuck: Anthony Davis, Kenneth Faried, Kawhi Leonard, Bradley Beal, Ricky Rubio, Tristan Thompson, Nikola Vucevic, Brandon Knight, Isaiah Thomas, Alexey Shved.

It's hard to go against Kyrie Irving and Lillard. Plus, Drummond could absolutely dominate in an open game like this. I like Team Shaq's chances for redemption.

Saturday: Foot Locker Three-Point Contest

Six contestants, three from each conference, make up what looks like an exciting list of competitors that's missing last year's winner Kevin Love because of injury. From the Eastern Conference, Steve Novak of the Knicks, Paul George of the Pacers, and that Kyrie Irving fellow will all let it fly. From the West, Ryan Anderson of the Hornets, Stephen Curry of the Warriors, and Matt Bonner (#letbonnershoot) of the Spurs round out the field.

As a fan of shooting, this is always one of my favorite competitions. My ideal final is Novak vs. Bonner, with several discount double checks taking place, but coming up just short to the Medium Fundamental.

Sprite Slam Dunk Contest

No LeBron, no Blake, but the competitors might still put on one entertaining show. Six dunkers (three from each conference) will take to the air in the penultimate event leading up to the All-Star Game. Your competitors: defending champion Jeremy Evans of the Jazz, rookie Terrence Ross of the Raptors, Gerald Green of the Pacers, Eric Bledsoe of the Clippers, Kenneth Faried of the Nuggets, and James White of the Knicks.

My money is on Flight White. I know he's a little older than the rest of the field, but just watch how effortless he makes some of these incredible dunks look to the tune of R. Kelly's "World's Greatest." It's amazing:

Yeah, he's going to come up with some insand stuff for this contest.
