The Lakers fired Mike Brown today after a conference-worst 1-4 start.

Mike Brown out in LA.

In this article…

"Mike Just called saying he was relieved of his duties."

Mike Brown's agent Warren LeGarie confirmed on friday morning that Mike Brown is out as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers as reported by the USA Today and ESPN LA

Brown and the Lakers went their separate ways after the head coach led the heavy favorite Lakers to a 1-4 start on the season. One day after Lakers owner Jerry Buss had stated Mike Brown was their guy and hours after a report by Markc Stein said they would evaluate his job after the homestand, the surprising move was made. Bernie Bickerstaff will assume the coaching duties as the interim head coach.

"Mike was very hard-working and dedicated, but we felt it was in the best interest of the team to make a change at this time. We appreciate Mike’s efforts and contributions and wish him and his family the best of luck.” Lakers manager Mitch Kupchak.

Mitch Kupchak is speculated to bring in a big name coach able to some what fill the big shoes of Phil Jackson, including Mike D'Antoni or Jerry Sloan. The Princeton offense was clearly not a god fit for a Lakers team suited to run. Bringing in a coach who runs a faster system could play to the benefits of players such as Steve Nash and Dwight Howard.
