The comedian/rocker/actor will not be going to jail

Russell Brand is Still a Free Man

In this article…

This morning Russell Brand was sentenced to 20 hours of community service in addition to a $500 court fee for his run-in with a New Orleans paparazzi. Though Brand wasn't present at the courthouse, his lawyer entered the not-guilty plead for him and is optimistic that Brand will be able to fulfill his required community service hours through his charity working helping individuals struggling with addictions.

The incident sparking this the whole debacle took place back in March when Brand took a paparazzi's iPhone and threw it at a window, smashing the window and obviously destroying phone. Brand's reasoning for throwing the phone through the window was in response to the death of Steve Jobs:

"Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."

Brand was charged with "criminal damage to property" and originally faced up to 6 months behind bars. After hiring attorney Robert Glass and this morning's sentencing, the case "may be dismissed if the actor provides proof he has completed the service requirements by Aug 31."
