The CTA train and bus lines are finally running at their normal, slowed down pace after a crazy festival weekend here in Chicago. I already updated you all on some of the activities at The Taste of Chicago, but I left out one very important festival: The Pitchfork Music Festival. Pitchfork is a three-day-long concert event open to the public—for $45 dollars per day—featuring all kinds of artists from all over the place. It has been put on by Pitchfork Media since 2006 and seems to be gaining momentum each year.
The weekend line up may give you an idea as to why it has become so popular.
Friday: Feist, A$AP Rocky, Japandroids, Dirty Projectors, Purity Ring, Clams Casino, Willis Earl Beal, Lower Dens, Tim Hecker, The Olivia Tremor Control, Big K.R.I.T, Outer Minds,
Saturday: Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Grimes, Flying Lotus, Danny Brown, Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells, Cloud Nothings, Wild Flag, Chromatics, Schoolboy Q, Nicholas Jaar, Cults, Liturgy, Atlas Sound, Lots Plaza, The Psychic Paramount, The Atlas Mouth, Youth Lagoon,
Sunday: Vampire Weekend, Beach House, AraabMuzik, Kendrick Lamar, Real Estate, Ty Segall, The Men, The Field, Iceage, Oneohtrix Pint Never, The Oh Sees, Chavez, Milk Music, King Krule, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Dirty Beaches, A Lull
The Huffington Post put together a very detailed review of all three days of the event. They dealt with some weather and sound issues, but for the bands overcame them to put on some great shows. To find out more about the event, visit the Pitchfork website.
Like all music festivals, mass numbers of hipsters seem to come out of the woodwork to attend Pitchfork. One of its summer competitors is Lollapalooza, and since tickets go for about half the price at Pitchfork as they do at Lolla, it’s not hard to see why people flock to this particular event. The performers may be slightly less mainstream, but it’s good music nonetheless. Aside from the muggy weekend and nonstop pouring rain, I haven’t heard any complaints about the event so far.
Let CHARGED.fm get you tickets to see your favorite bands and artists live this summer.
