Accenture Day Two: Down Goes Tiger

In this article…

Tiger Woods was bounced by Nick Watney in the second round today of the WGC Accenture Match Play Championships today.  Woods took the match the distance, but only had three birdies and was inconsistent.  He struggled off the tee at times and just couldn't get into a rhythm.  At times, it looked like Watney was going to put him away, but he couldn't gain control of the match either.  Watney held off Woods to advance to the semifinals where he will take on number one seed Lee Westwood, which is a milestone in its own right.

Westwood can finally say that he advanced past the second round of this particular tournament.  In 11 appearances, he had never won two days in a row.  Westwood looked particularly sharp today against Robert Karlsson and dispatched him 3 and 2.

The other one seeds, Rory McIlroy and Martin Kaymer, also advanced easily.  The lone 16 seed remaining, Ernie Els, had his "run" come to an end against Peter Hanson.  The highest-seeded player remaining also happens to be the oldest player in the field.  At 48-years-old, Miguel Angel Jimenez has knocked off both Sergio Garcia and Keegan Bradley as a 13 seed and will take on McIlroy today, one of the younger competitors in the field.

Dustin Johnson turned in the most dominating performance yesterday, taking down Francesco Molinari 7 and 5.  Johnson is looking as tough as anyone left, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him make the semifinals out of his bracket.  The other dominating performance was a surprising one.  10 seed John Senden knocked out 2 seed and fellow Australian Jason Day 6 and 5 to get to the Sweet 16.

Looking at the bracket, here's my projected "final four" if you will: Johnson, McIlroy, Watney, and Matt Kuchar.

Here's the complete tournament bracket, and keep checking back all tournament long.  And let CHARGED.fm get you tickets to your next sporting event.
