Rihanna Debuts New Song, 'American Oxygen' at NCAA March Madness Music Festival

In NCAA’s March Madness Music Festival, Rihanna teased fans with a snippet of her latest single, “American Oxygen.”

Later on Saturday, Rihanna debuted the song via Jay Z’s  new ventureTIDAL.

In the song, “American Dream” Rihanna sings about living out her American Dream by coming to the states. She plays on the national anthem, creating a more similar anthem of her own.

Notable lyrics include: "Oh say, you see, this is the American Dream/Young girl, hustlin’/On the other side of the ocean/You can be anything at all/In America, America/I say, can’t see/Just close your eyes and see…This is the new America/We are the new America."

“American Dream” has a very different sound from her other two singles, “Bitch Better Have My Money” and “FourFiveSeconds.” The song has a R&B/Pop vibe, but it’s different from the R&B/Pop vibe of “FourFiveSeconds,” which had a more acoustic sound. The song is produced by Alex Da Kid.

Rihanna also dropped the visuals for "American Oxygen" on TIDAL, as well.

The video displays the diversity of America; immigrants coming to America to pursue their dreams, alongside the terrors of America; the violence present amongst the races. Rihanna takes the video of "American Oxygen" to take a stand against the atrocities present in today's society; Ferguson, Mike Brown, Eric Garner, etc. Rihanna's video exhibits a strong and powerful message, in a beautiful manner. (The music video has since been taken down but check out the track below.)
