Elias Soriano of Nonpoint Talks about ‘The Return,’ 10th Anniversary of ‘To The Pain’ + Living Colour

Anyone who has seen Nonpoint live knows what an intense experience they can bring. On this year's ShipRocked Cruise, we had the chance to catch Nonpoint twice onstage and also sit down with vocalist Elias Soriano. We chatted in the presence of the almighty Living Colour and it was evident how much Soriano looks up to the legendary band.

There was talk of a possible Living Colour and Nonpoint tour as well. Soriano also talked about the band's latest album The Return as well as the their ten year anniversary of the hard hitting disc To the Pain. Check out our full interview with Elias Soriano of Nonpoint below:

Talk about The Return – what does this title mean to you?

The last record was almost like a resurgence for our band. It just felt right to call this one The Return. We decided to piss everybody off and confuse everybody by calling our seventh record a self-titled album so the eighth was the next step.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of To the Pain which features favorites “Alive and Kicking” and “Bullet With a Name” – what does this album mean to you?

We took almost a year to do that. We were in between labels, the whole business side of everything. There was a lot of uncertainty with our band at that time. Our manager at the time said, “I really feel like we can do this, we should drop a record by ourselves” and that was our first independent release.

We released three records before that with MCA and Atlantic, after the three records the label started closing floors. We got a letter from Atlantic saying they’re not picking us up, luckily we got a big check from Atlantic and we took that check and put it towards that album. We took 11 months just to focus on writing, we started getting into the technical side of things and bought a ProTools rig .

What does the rest of 2015 hold in store for Nonpoint?

Living Colour and Nonpoint tour, we’re already talking about it. When we get back we have some tour dates in the Spring and then in the Fall we’re talking about trying to get out there with Living Colour.
