Founded in 2009, The Global Syndicate (GS) unites socially conscious individuals in support of real action on the ground in the areas of education, clean energy and economic development. The "Shine the Light Campaign" will provide solar powered light solutions to the people of Haiti. The ramifications are far reaching and cut across key areas that are important to the mission of uplifting impoverished communities. For $10 an entire family gets the power of light which lends itself to savings of roughly $100 to $300 per year by eliminating the need for kerosene, providing over 5,000 hours of after sunset productivity for studying and business, material decrease in violence against women and children, decrease in lung cancer and other pulmonary disorders associated with inhalation of toxins, and decreased environmental degradation such as CO2 emissions and continued deforestation. The light sources that our campaign distributes will: 1) Light schools and health clinics, ensure safety of young girls and women in slums and IDP camps; 2) Protect the environment by reducing the use of fuel wood & dung; 3) Reduce the time and transport burden of women and young girls who collect biomass, thereby increasing opportunities for education and income-generating work; 4) Lower child mortality rate and improve maternal health with access to clinics with lighting. Decrease incidence of lung cancer and other pulmonary issues; and 5) Meet the needs of poor people for their household activities, trade and schooling.
