Los Angeles Lakers forward Ron Artest will trade in his high-tops for a pair of dancing shoes on the newest season of ABC's “Dancing with the Stars”.
A source close to the highly-rated reality show confirmed to CHARGED that Artest or as he will soon be known, Metta World Peace, is one of the participants on the 13th season of DWTS.
The full cast will be announced on Monday, August 29th during ABC's “The Bachelor Pad” and the new season will kick-off Monday, September 19th. Artest, known for his defensive footwork will see if those skills translate to the dance floor.
It will be interesting to see who else Artest will be competing against. One rumor has the Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade as one of the other cast members. However, the source we spoke to did not mention Wade amongst the list of participants.
Athletes have faired really well on past seasons of the show combining for six wins and four second place finishes in 12 seasons. That includes wins by Emmitt Smith, Apolo Anton Ohno, Helio Castroneves, Kristi Yamaguchi, Shawn Johnson, and Hines Ward. Notable NFL players Warren Sapp, Jerry Rice and Jason Taylor all finished second in their respective seasons.
It is unclear how Artest's commitment to the show will impact his plans to play for the Chesire Jets in England. This is just another interesting road being taken by NBA players as they face the very real possibility of losing the NBA season but is definitely a step up from working at Home Depot.
Artest should bring plenty of character and personality to the show and provide plenty of entertainment for DWTS and NBA fans alike. I for one am looking forward to Artest telling DWTS host Tom Bergeron to say “Queensbridge”.
