Mets Take Two of Three From Best Home Team in Baseball

After getting the pitching help they've so desperately needed (acquiring Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum), the Milwaukee Brewers have started the year 22-9 at Miller Park, which is the best home record in baseball. The New York Mets came into Milwaukee Tuesday night and beat the Brewers 2-1. On Wednesday, New York scored 5 runs in the 8th inning, but thanks to two home runs by Prince Fielder and a walk off hit by Nyjer Morgan, Milwaukee won the game 7-6.

Yovani Gallardo (8-3) had won 6 straight games going into Thursday night. But it was Jon Niese who pitched like an All-Star.

Via MLB.com:

Throwing 39 curveballs out of 99 total pitches, Niese turned the game into a microcosm of his season. Once "in love with" his cut fastball, in his own words, Niese has since relied increasingly on his curveball, his primary weapon earlier in his career. It was largely because of that breaking pitch that he retired the first 11 Brewers in order and struck out a career-high eight, which he did three times in 2010.

The young lefty went 7 2/3 innings, giving up 3 hits and just 1 run, before handing the ball to Fransisco Rodriguez, who recorded a 4 out save. Gallardo, on the other hand, couldn't get out of the 5th inning after surrendering 10 hits and 4 earned runs. It was his first loss since May 2nd in Atlanta, when the Brewers fell to the Braves 6-2.

The Mets go on the road to Pittsburgh, while the Brewers try to bounce back from only their second home series loss of the year with weekend games against their division rival St. Louis Cardinals.
