Drake Pulls a Beyoncé And Secretly Releases New Album

Thursday night, Drake surprised millions of fans by releasing a new album without notice. (He did release a video earlier Thursday morning hinting at the potential dropping of something new). This isn’t Drake’s “official album,” (which is why it’s considered a “mixtape”). His official album is titled, Views From the 6 . The reason Drake released the “mixtape” was allegedly to be released from his record label, Cash Money Records. He was tied to Cash Money Records under a 4-album contract; the release of If You're Reading This It’s Too Late on iTunes (which, ultimately, is an album full of throw-away tracks) marks Drake’s 4th album thus allowing him to be released from his label scot-free.

Drake pulled a fast one as he put out as the release dropped on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015 at 11:04 P.M. EST via Twitter while at the NBA All Star Concert.

The album, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late has a melancholy vibe and sounds heavily influenced by his previous songs “Started From the Bottom," “0 to 100,” and "How About Now."

One interesting part of the new release was Drake dissing rapper, Tyga in the song "6PM in New York," Drake spits, "I heard a lil lil homie talkin' reckless in Vibe / Quite a platform you chose / Shoulda kept it inside / Oh you tried / It's so childish / Callin' my name out on the world stage / You need to act your own age and not your girl's age." (This jab refers to when Tyga told Vibe Magazine that he doesn't "like Drake as a person" as well as referring to his diss track, "Make it Work" in which Tyga talks smack about Drake and Nicki Minaj.).

As a whole, the mixtape consists of 17 tracks with features by PARTYNEXTDOOR, Lil Wayne, and Travi$ Scott.
