NHL All Star Game
Performing now!
With the 2015 NHL All-Star Game a month away and the league back in full swing from Christmas break, I think it's a good time to look at this year's prospective all-stars. There will be 21 players selected from each conference: 12 forwards, six defensemen, and three goalies. I will do a six-part series, analyzing each group in both conferences. Remember, this is not a definitive list of who will make the all-star team, just my ballot for all it's worth.
Note: Statistics are through the games played Tuesday, December 23rd.
Here are my Western Conference Goalies:
Pekka Rinne, Nashville Predators
After barely playing last season due to injury, no one was quite sure what to expect from Rinne this year. How about a Vezina Trophy? Because that is certainly where Rinne is headed if his second half play matches the first. He leads the league in wins with 23 and is the driving force behind Nashville's transformation into a playoff-caliber team.
Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings
Quick's record would look better if the Kings ever figure out how to score the way they did in the playoffs last year. Regardless, he has posted an impressive save percentage at 92.3 and remains one of the elite goaltenders in the game.
Corey Crawford, Chicago Blackhawks
You don't have to be a world beater in net to look good playing for this team. Despite missing time due to injuries, Crawford has been impressive with a 92.7 save percentage and exactly two goals against per game. If he keeps those numbers up, with the number of wins he will accumulate in Chicago, his stat line may merit Vezina consideration at the end of the year.
