2014 Holiday Movie Preview [Comedy]

In this article…

Comedy movies have always brought happiness and laughter to people, and when combined with the holidays people get a double dose of happiness.

2014 has a few big comedies on the The month will begin with the indie comedy Life Partners hitting theaters Friday (Dec. 5). Chris Rock will enter theaters after to provide more laughter alongside a list of other comedians in Top Five. Things won't end there, James Franco and Seth Rogen will make their way to the big screen with The Interview. Despite the tension between the two and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un this summer, they will still be in theaters.

"Tis the season to be jolly," and you definitely will be if you catch any of these movies.

Life Partners

Best friends vow to always be there for each other.

In Life Partners Sasha (Leighton Meester) and Paige (Gillian Jacobs) are best friends, but their friendship is tested when Paige gets in to a serious relationship with Tim (Adam Brody). Sasha, a lesbian, gets jealous because she is not used to Paige spending so much time with someone else. The movie highlights the funny moments and level of comfort that is involved in a friendship as close as Sasha and Paige's.

Everyone has a best friend that they spend most of their days with and people confuse as their partner. Life Partners shows all of the funny events that unravel behind the scenes of a close friendship then moves to the jealousy that occurs when one starts to drift away from the other for someone else. The movie's realistic situations and characters will be appreciated by anyone who watches it.

This is a movie that you could see with your friends and laugh about how relatable some of the things on screen are. Life Partners looks like it will be a hidden comedy gem this season.

You'll be able to see Life Partners when it makes its way to theaters December 5.

Top Five

Written and directed by Chris Rock Top Five is going keep everyone jolly with laughter.

Top Five will follow Andre Allen (Rock) as he is trying to grow out of his comedian shell and become a serious actor. On the day his new drama is hitting theaters, Allen is spends a day with Chelsea (Rosario Dawson), a profile writer for The New York Times. As the day goes on he finds himself opening up to Chelsea and trying to get back to his comedy roots. With a cast full of comedians it is not hard for Andre to do just that.

Cedric the Entertainer, J.B. Smoove, Kevin Hart, Tracy Morgan, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler and more are featured alongside Rock. With those names and so many great comedians involved there is no way that people won't be drawn toward theaters. Top Five's cast might make people laugh so hard that they walk out with washboard abs.

By the looks of the trailer, Rock did not just focus on trying to get laughs but telling a much deeper story: the story of how we must sometimes revisit and get in touch with the people and places that make us who we are.

Look for Top Five in theaters December 12.

The Interview

James Franco and Seth Rogen do not care whether Kim Jong-un is offended by The Interview; they are still going to have fun either way.

Dave Skylark (Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Rogen) run a successful pop tabloid TV show that grabs the attention of the North Korean dictator. Jong-un invites the duo to North Korea because he wants to be interviewed on their show. When they are about to depart, Skylark and Rapoport are recruited by the CIA to assassinate Jong-un. Things never go as planned in a movie starring Franco and Rogen together.

For 112 minutes we will get to see what new jokes the acting duo can pull off successfully and see what new material Rogen and Evan Goldberg penned. Since we know the track record of these two, there will be at least two dick jokes, guaranteed. People may be tired of watching Franco and Rogen do the same type of comedy but there are still people who enjoy their antics.

Jong-un should not be upset because of the movie, he should join everyone in their jolly spirit and enjoy the fact that he can be a part of comedy now.

The Interview will enter theaters Christmas day (December 25).
