AFC match ups that will make for must-see games during the 2014 season

Must See NFL Games in 2014: AFC

Football is BACK! The 2014 NFL season kicked off last when the Seattle Seahawks started their title defense in convincing fashion against the Green Bay Packers. But what does it say about the strength of the league's overall schedule when this matchup, a rematch of the infamous “Fail Mary” game between two powerful NFC teams that made the postseason, isn't even the best home game for the Seahawks this year?

With so many competitive teams, the 2014 NFL season looks to be even better than last year, and there has never been a better time to get to the stadium to take in the action. That's why we've mapped out the one home game for each NFL team that you absolutely have to make it to this year. Yesterday we looked at the best games for every NFC team. Now let's take a look at the best home games for all 16 AFC teams.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills face a tough beginning to their season as they face their Chicago Bears in their opening game. They also face a tough test in week three as the San Diego Chargers travel across the country to upstate New York. With a week 9 bye, the Bills hope to be at least 4-4. If they manage that, Week 12 vs. the Jets can either make or break their season, barring the success of the AFC East division favorite New England Patriots.

Miami Dolphins

Week 11 begins with the Buffalo Bills traveling to South Beach on Thursday Night Football. This matchup sees two maturing quarterbacks in E.J. Manuel and Ryan Tannehill face off in a key divisional matchup that may have playoff implications. Both young teams have big hopes this season, and this will be a key test for the Dolphins.

New England Patriots

After making big off-season acquisitions such as Darelle Revis, Brandon Browner and Brandon Lafell, the Patriots arguably had one of the best off seasons in the NFL. The Patriots are again favorites to claim the AFC East title. The Denver Broncos return to Foxboro week 9 for another installment of Tom Brady vs. Peyton Manning. When two of some of the greatest to ever play the quarterback position square off, it is a must-see event.

New York Jets

With the quarterback competition between Michael Vick and Geno Smith settled, Geno’s only goal this season is to win games. Before the Jets bye week in week 11, the Jets square off against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 10 at MetLife Stadium. A game the Jets will need to win if they want to keep pace with the division favorite New England Patriots.

Baltimore Ravens

After a disappointing season following their Super Bowl victory and the retirement of Ray Lewis, the Ravens hope to make the postseason in 2014. With Ray Rice suspended the first two games, Bernard Pierce will take carries from Joe Flacco. With the addition of veteran Steve Smith from the Panthers in the offseason and Rice's return, the Ravens will like their chances in what will be a closely contested AFC North this season. In week 13 the Chargers visit Baltimore in what could be the Ravens biggest non-divisional matchup of the 2014 season against Philip Rivers and company who will also be battling for their division title in the AFC West.

Cincinnati Bengals

There is only one thing on the mind of the Cincinnati Bengals franchise: win a single playoff game. The Bengals have yet to win a postseason game since 1990 during the Boomer Esiason era in Cincinnati. In Week 16, the Bengals face off against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in a matchup that may have playoff seeding implications for the Bengals.

Cleveland Browns

With Brian Hoyer getting the starting job over Johnny Manziel, the Brown are now only focused on winning football games. With a week 4 bye week, the Cleveland Browns must remain consistent and focused in order to have a shot at the postseason in the tightly contested AFC North. Week 15 sees the Browns host the Bengals. Depending on the performance of Hoyer in the early stages of the season and the franchises record, there may be a possibility to see Manziel in week 15.

Pittsburgh Steelers

After not making the postseason in 2013, the Steelers hope to turn it around in the 2014 season. With their veteran lineup and new rookie additions such as Dri Archer and Ryan Shazier, the Steelers are looking to blend their experience with youth and continue to build for the future. In what is sure to be a very closely contested AFC North this season, the Steelers hope for a tough win at home week 13 as Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints visit Heinz Field during the cold fall months in Pittsburgh.

Houston Texans

Coming off a two win 2013 season, the Texans have much room for improvement in 2014. With veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, it appears as if the QB saga in Houston is resolved. Their first home divisional game is week 6 versus Andrew Luck and the Colts. Could it be the start of an impressive season in the AFC South for the Texans?

Indianapolis Colts

After an impressive performance in the postseason last season, Chuck Pagano and his Indianapolis Colts are looking to better their AFC divisional round playoff exit at the hands of the New England Patriots last season. After a bye week in week 10, the Colts will take on the Patriots at Lucas Oil Stadium in primetime on Sunday night in week 11.

Jacksonville Jaguars

It appears to be the start of a new era in Jacksonville. With additions such as Toby Gerhart, Marquise Lee and returning pieces such as Cecil Shorts III, the Jaguars may not be ready to compete for the AFC South title yet, but the future is looking bright. The Jaguars' first home divisional matchup is against the Indianapolis Colts week 3, and that should tell us where the Jaguars are.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans are hoping to see the emergence of Jake Locker in the 2014 season. His success may determine the success of this franchise this season. If he remains healthy, the Titans may be able to compete for a wildcard position this season. In Week 14, the Titans host the New York Giants in a game that may have serious playoff implications for both franchises.

Denver Broncos

With the additions of Demarcus Ware, Emmanuel Sanders and Aqib Talib, The Broncos may have a shot at returning to the big dance in February, and perhaps with greater result than the romp they took at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks at MetLife Stadium. The Broncos take on teams from the NFC West this season, and while they don't get the Seahawks at home, they do take on the San Francisco 49ers in Denver week 7.

Kansas City Chiefs

After a very promising regular season in 2013 followed by a very disappointing postseason, the Chiefs are hoping to make a run in the postseason this year under Andy Reid. In a tightly contested AFC West that could potentially have three postseason teams this year, the Chiefs look to get wins against easier out of division opponents. In Week 17, the Chiefs host division rival San Diego in a matchup that may see one of the two franchises losing a playoff berth.

Oakland Raiders

With rookie quarterback Derek Carr getting the nod as the starting quarterback from head coach Dennis Allen earlier this week, the Raiders are hoping Carr can have an impressive season and move this franchise towards future success. In  Week 14, the Raiders host their local rivals the San Francisco 49ers in what will be a true test of Derek Carr’s progress throughout the season against a stout 49ers defense.

San Diego Chargers

After a tough exit from the postseason last season, Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers are hungry to reach a Super Bowl. The Chargers' final home game comes in Week 15 against their division rivals, the Denver Broncos.
