Kevin Love Headed to Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cavs paid a heavy price, including top pick Andrew Wiggins, but now have their own Big Three.

Kevin Love Headed to Cleveland Cavaliers

Editor's Note: Love's defense aside, it's hard to dislike this trade for the Cavaliers. Cleveland's ability to stretch the floor and move the ball is going to be incredibly challenging to defend. They will figure out the defensive side of things, but man will this team be scary on offense. - Ross

The Summer of Love has finally come to an end. After months of speculation as to which team would land NBA superstar Kevin Love, the Cleveland Cavaliers have come out on top.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Love will join Lebron James and Kyrie Irving in Cleveland in the Cavs' quest to bring the city their first championship since 1964. In the blockbuster deal, 2013 first overall pick Anthony Bennett and 2014 first overall pick Andrew Wiggins will be headed to the Minnesota Timberwolves along with a protected 2015 first-round pick.

While Cleveland is giving up a lot to get Love, the good news for Cavs fans is that Love will not be a rental player. Love has reportedly agreed to sign a 5-year, $120 million contract extension with Cleveland. The Cavs now have basketball's best "Big 3" in Irving, Lebron, and Love and are the definite front-runners to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals.

Love has put up great statistics every year since he entered the league in 2008 and last year was no different. He averaged over 26 points with 12.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists. He shot over 37% from behind the three-point line and almost 46% from the field, once again showing how dynamic of a shooter and scorer he is. Love possesses everything a team could want in a big man, as he is an elite rebounder that can score from anywhere on the floor. He passes the ball well and has proven himself to be one of the best outlet passers the NBA has ever seen, as shown in the GIF below.

At only 25-year-old (26 when the season begins), it is scary to think that Love may not even be in his prime yet. He will certainly help make this Cavs team one of, if not the, best offense in the NBA. Teams will have a lot of trouble stopping both Love and James and if they do manage to contain both, Kyrie Irving has the ability to take over a game by himself.

As for the Timberwolves, this was a fantastic deal for the team. After the Warriors, Bulls, and Celtics, among other teams, decided to pull out of the Love sweepstakes, the Cavs had faced no competition in acquiring Love. But the Timberwolves front office still managed to put themselves in a great position even though they were forced to get rid of Love. Getting Wiggins, who may very well be the NBA's next big superstar, and Bennett, who still has a lot of talent despite his rookie struggles, and a first round pick next year, puts the team in a very good position to rebuild. With a lot of young talent already in Minnesota, including Ricky Rubio, Zach LaVine, and Shabazz Muhammed, the Timberwolves have to be excited about what the future holds.

Personally, I wasn't in favor of the Cavs trading Wiggins because he will become one of the league's top defenders while Love's defensive impact leaves a lot to be desired. However, it's clear that Cleveland wants to win right now and Love will certainly make this as explosive of an offense as the NBA has ever seen. With a lineup of James, Love, Irving, Dion Waiters, and Anderson Varejão, the Cavs have to be the favorites to take home the title this season. The trade can't be officially announced until August 23 since rookies are not allowed to be traded until 30 days after they sign, but the deal is done and the basketball landscape changed dramatically today.
