Boston Calling Announce 'Black Canvas' Art Contest

The much-loved music festival, Boston Calling, has announced a new art contest in which the winning pieces of work will be on display at the festival. Boston Calling will be taking place from September 5th -7th this year and has revealed an art contest, entitled Blank Canvas, with great excitement.

Entrants must create a 36x60" mural inspired by the festival. All five winning works will be displayed at the festival itself in September, but it doesn't stop there. As well as having their work displayed, each of the five winners will receive a $1,000 cash prize (including $250 for supplies) and four 3-day VIP tickets to Boston Calling.

Reaching it's second year and now in it's fourth installment, Boston Calling takes place at City Hall Plaza. The winning murals will be used to fill previously blank walls and will help to connect the festival back into the community by celebrating the talents of the people in and around Boston.

Concepts for murals must be submitted by August 5th, 2014 as a one-page 8.5 x 11" digital document that should be emailed to [email protected] The singular requirement is that the mural must be inspired, in some way, by the Boston Calling Music Festival. Submissions must be accompanied with the artist's name, contact information and a 100-word description of the submission.

Judging the works will be festival organizers, with the help of social media fans. All submission must be two-dimensional and must take into consideration that they will be displayed outdoors.

The contest marks huge levels of success for the Boston-based festival and allows the community to give their creative input to such a celebrated event.

Once again, Boston Calling assures another unique and exciting lineup with performances by The NationalLordeNas x The Roots and Neutral Milk Hotel. Tickets for the festival start at $75 for a single day, with Saturday and Sunday single day tickets at $185. More information and details about the contest, festival and more can be found at www.bostoncalling.com.
