Last Match

Germany won 4-0 vs Portugal

Ghana lost 2-1 vs USA

For Ghana, they had to like how they played against the US on Monday. The opening goal by the US was due in large part to lackadaisical defending by the Ghanaians, but for the most part they played solid. They displayed an unrelenting attack and moved the ball swiftly against the Americans. Unfortunately, they did a subpar job of defending a late corner kick by Graham Zusi and John Anthony Brooks made Ghana pay. If they have mental lapses against the Germans, they will pay and then some. Germany ran rickshaw over Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal and looked ultra dangerous moving forward.

Germany defeating Portugal like they did really helped the US in goal differential. The goal differential also works in Ghana's favor as well. If Ghana wants to move on, they need at least a draw against the mighty Germans. If they lose, it gets dicy. Let's take a closer look at the matchup.

Key Players

Mesut Ozil, Germany

Ozil has had a tough 2014 after initially being impressive in his debut season with Arsenal. Unfortunately, he has carried over his inconsistent play to the national team. He seems apprehensive and indecisive on the pitch and those are the last traits you want a goal scorer to possess. Apparently he is also a sensitive boy. Ozil has a lot of skill, so it can be frustrating seeing a player of his caliber struggle. If he can figure it out in the World Cup for Germany, it only makes their already potent offense more dangerous.

Asamoah Gyan, Ghana

If Ghana wants to get any points against Germany, they are going to need to score a few goals in order to keep up. If they do end up keeping pace, look no further than Gyan, whose speed can stretch out even the best of back lines. Americans already know the kind of trouble this guy can create.

Best Kits

Germany Kits:

Ghana Kits:

Germany's kits are as square and obtuse as you would expect coming from them. They, like Mexico's kits, seem like they are outdated. But like I said, we can't be shocked about a country that has loved David Hasselhoff as much as the Germans have. Ghana's kits, on the other hand, have all the flair and style we have come to expect from the African countries. They are high-quality in appearance. This guy approves.

Advantage: Ghana

When and Where?

3 PM ET, Estadio Castelao, Fortaleza, Brazil

Match Prediction

3-1 Germany. Germany looks like they are on a mission and are looking to debunk the notion that a European team can't win a World Cup on South American soil. Thomas Muller may only be 24, but at the age of 20 he won the Golden Boot at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and is looking to make it two in a row after his opening game hat trick. Ghana is a nice team and perhaps the most talented African squad in this World Cup, but I don't think their athleticism will be enough to overcome Germany's fortitude.
