J. Cole Finally Releases the 'Lights Please' Video After 5 Years

In this article…

Five years after J. Cole released his mixtape The Warm Up, featuring "Lights Please," he has finally released the music video for the song.

The video for "Lights Please" was originally intended to tell a story alongside Cole's "Lost Ones" and "Simba." In the interview with Sway for "RapFix" on MTV News the rapper told that his plans were to drop the music video relatively close to when the song came out and have the others come out one by one, telling the story.

In the video you see a young Cole and can tell that the video was recorded years before the rapper really blew up. He told Sway in the interview that he started shooting the video in 2008.

When you pay attention to the songs' lyrics you can see how the three are supposed to come together as one story. The lyrics are deep and tell the story of a couple who gets involved then have to make a decision on something so controversial. It all makes you realize how great of a lyricist Cole was and still is. At least we finally have the video now, as it's better late than never.
