11 Essential Pop Tours for Summer 2014

Pop, the new melting pot of music genres, seems to only have one requirement these days: it has to be catchy.

Luckily, these pop artists do just that. This summer is jam-packed with top-of-the-charts pop artists going on tour showing off their nearly instantaneous hits that have had you out of your seats all spring.

From Katy Perry's "Dark Horse," to "She Looks So Perfect" by 5 Seconds of Summer, this list of essential pop tours will remind you why blasting the radio with your car windows down feels so great.

So, take a look at our list of Ten Essential Pop Tours below to recognize some of your favorite artists like One Direction and Lady Gaga!

Eminem and Rihanna

Rihanna and Eminem make a strangely cute pair on stage, and seem comfortable enough after collaborating on chart-topping hits like "The Monster" and "Love the Way You Lie." Now, the two will be taking a short amount of time for The Monster Tour, a brief six-night tour that spans three stadiums in August: L.A.'s Rose Bowl, East Rutherford's Metlife Stadium, and Comerica Park in Detroit. The tour also coincides with Eminem's Lollapalooza headlining gig August 1-3 in Chicago's Grant Park.

Jay Z and Beyoncé

King Jay Z and Queen Bey will be hitting 16 stadiums together this summer, as if their concerts weren't selling out enough already on their own. The most powerful power couple will be kicking off their On the Run Tour on June 25th at Sun Life Stadium in Miami and finishing up in San Francisco at AT&T Park on August 5. We can only hope that this tour won't be too much awesome to handle.

Justin Timberlake

Jay Z's touring partner from last summer, Justin Timberlake, has an impeccably large list of tour dates to accomplish. But JT isn't just touring throughout the summer. Oh no, this over-achiever of a musician (and actor, and director, and philanthropist, etc.) has tour dates going until the end of the year.

Can't keep up? Thankfully, JT's loving wife and previous 7th Heaven cast member Jessica Biel is keeping a WhoSay scrapbook that documents some of the beautiful locations the 20/20 Tour has brought the couple already. Currently the pop star is performing overseas, but will return to North America on July 9 to the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York, before going back overseas for some Australia shows, then again, he'll be back here. Don't worry - we can't keep up with it all either.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry is sure to "Roar" the roof off at all of her upcoming venues for her Prismatic Tour. While the first half of Perry's world tour started overseas on May 7 with Icona Pop, the tour's second leg will hit U.S. soil on June 22 in Raleigh, North Carolina at the PNC Arena. For the U.S. leg, Perry will be joined by indie pop duo Capital Cities. Before the tour ends in December, Perry will also be joined onstage by Kacey Musgraves, Tegan and Sara, and Becky G. A portion of the second leg's ticket sales will be donated to a number of causes including UNICEF, Autism Speaks, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

One Direction

The guys of One Direction are resilient when it comes to their job as musicians. Since their beginning stages in 2011, they've released three albums in three years (2011-2013), all of which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, they've starred in a concert movie, to the delight of millions of fans, and are currently working on their third tour. The Where We Are Tour is a worldwide effort, stopping anywhere and everywhere. In the next few days the boys will be playing in Dublin for a few nights, having just finished up the Latin America leg of the tour. From there, they will head home to the U.K. for 8 shows until June 8, before sailing over to North America where they will play in Ontario on August 1, which is shortly followed by a two-night Metlife Stadium stop in East Rutherford, New Jersey on August 4 and 5. The tour wraps up at Sun Life Stadium in Maimi, Florida on October 5.

As if that wasn't enough, the boy band just recently announced their On the Road Again Tour, a 2015 spring tour spanning Australia, Asia, South Africa, and Dubai that begins in February.

Lady Gaga

Get ready, little monsters, for The ARTPOP Ball Tour hosted by the Lady herself. Lady Gaga has already begun the worldwide summer tour, which opened May 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the BB&T Center. Rumors in early March placed the tour on a potential flop radar, but those rumors have since been denied. Gaga will be hitting up Atlantic City on June 28 at Boardwalk Hall, before traveling around the rest of North America. The tour ends on November 24 in Paris, France at Bercy. Hatsune Miku and Crayon Pop will be providing support throughout the year.

OneRepublic

Colorado pop rock band OneRepublic have been slowly churning out hit after hit from "Apologize" to "Counting Stars." The band has been on the radar for quite some time and it looks like their summer tour is gaining a lot of traction, a promising endeavor for the band. The tour opens where it all began in Red Rocks Ampitheatre in Colorado on May 28. The band will then travel around North America, ending on August 30, where they will also finish in Colorado at Jazz Aspen Snowmass. Don't worry though, they will be hitting the NY-NJ area from June 28-29 and August 9-10, and will be playing as a part of the TODAY show's Toyota Summer Concert Series on July 25 in Rockefeller Plaza.

(They're also touring with The Script and American Authors, who we just interviewed!)

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus' tour oddities and antics on her Bangerz Tour have been all anyone has been talking about this season, but it is worthwhile to mention that the scarily influential pop starlet will be touring throughout the summer as well. For anyone who ever wanted to see Hannah Montana riding a giant weiner on stage, you still have a chance. Her next date is at the Parks & Suites Arena in Montpellier on May 23 as she wraps up the more exotic leg of her tour on June 22 in Amsterdam. The North American leg of the tour starts August 1 at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, where she'll perform across the country for two weeks, ending up in Chicago on August 14 at the United Center.

Austin Mahone

Austin Mahone doesn't quite seem like a big enough name to contend with the likes of Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake yet, but as his album The Secret drops on May 27, his seemingly "secret" identity is expected to explode, leading to a massive touring opportunity this summer. He's already been on Taylor Swift's RED Tour and headlined MTV's Artist to Watch Tour earlier this year.

This summer, Mahone will be playing a number of stadium shows, mostly in the U.S. starting on June 1 at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Jones Beach, New York before wrapping it up in time for school on September 9 at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Throughout the summer, he will be joined by acts Fifth Harmony, Shawn Mendes, The Vamps, and Alex Angelo.

5 Seconds of Summer

Despite their name, this band won't be touring for only 5 seconds. Their debut self-titled album drops July 22, but their single, "She Looks So Perfect" has garnered enough attention to sell tickets. The band's attention and talent have even turned Liam Payne of One Direction green with envy, as he endorses the band, giving them his full support.

One of the most highly anticipated tours of the summer, 5 Seconds of Summer will be on the road with One Direction for their Where We Are Tour (listed above), sticking with the band from May to October 5. Yes, it's the same tour as One Direction's, so maybe the '11 tours' list was a lie, but these guys are expected to be so huge, they deserve a slot of their own as they are turning both the heads of One Directioners, and everyone else around them.

Bruno Mars and Pharrell Williams

Last but certainly not least, Bruno Mars and Pharrell Williams are joining forces to put on what is sure to be one of the most fun tours of the summer. Both performers are riding big waves of momentum into the Summer. Mars was incredible performing at the Super Bowl back in February and Pharrell's "Happy" continues to inspire people. In just a couple weeks, the pair will embark on a long stretch of dates beginning in Los Angeles. Pharrell won't be on all of Mars' dates, but he will be there for most of the big dates. And when Pharrell isn't there, rising performer Aloe Blacc will be there to fill in. Obviously no Pharrell, but that's not a bad substitute!
