Bumbershoot Announces 2014 Music Lineup

Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival is starting the publicity push. Over the weekend, they announced the 2014 music lineup that will be headlined by Foster the People, J. Cole and Wu-Tang Clan.

While not as star-studded on the surface as other festivals, Bumbershoot usually succeeds with its versatility and its depth. There are plenty of talented acts performing at Bumbershoot, including The Replacements, The Head and the Heart, Elvis Costello, Danny Brown, Panic! at the Disco, Neon Trees, Capital Cities, Big Freedia, Real Estate, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Schoolboy Q, Kishi Bashi, Gregory Alan Isakov, Twin Shadow and many more under-the-radar groups.

But Bumbershoot is never just about the music. The festival usually has one of the best comedy lineups of any in the country, and you know it's good when they have separate music and comedy lineup announcements. Last year, the fest boasted the likes of Patton Oswalt, Marc Maron, Todd Barry, Maria Bamford, Reggie Watts, Doug Benson and several live podcast tapings/sketch shows. This year's will likely be on par with that.

In addition, the festival has theatre, visual arts and words/ideas programming. Among the most intriguing that I saw in the lineup was an event called Literary Deathmatch, where famous and emerging authors read their works to an audience and a panel of judges in a humorous but competitive manner. If something like that doesn't suck you in, I don't really know what to tell you.

Bumbershoot takes place from August 30 - September 1 at Seattle Center. Check out the lineup announcement video below plus the complete lineup featured on the festival poster, and for more information head over to www.bumbershoot.org.
