'The Trip To Italy' Looks Hilarious

by Photo of Ross Bernhardt

It’s looks like more of the same from Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, and that’s a good thing.

In this article…

The 2010 film The Trip is a comedic gem that not many people might know about. Starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, it paints versions of themselves on a trip to sample the finest foods of the United Kingdom for The Observer. Hilarity ensues in the form of aggravation, impressions, and general funniness from two very funny people, but there's also some poignancy about two men that are entering new stages in their lives.

Now the sequel is set to come out on May 29, and the pair are serving up more of the formula that worked so well the first time. The Observer is sending them to Italy to do more restaurant reviews, and the trailer finds a delightful mix of what we can expect: more impressions, more food, and more aggravation, and plenty of wit. My favorite bit from the trailer might be Coogan's line when Brydon asks him where he stands on Michael Buble: "His windpipe?" They also seem to hit on the existential notes from the first film a little bit. They kept the continuity intact with director Michael Winterbottom, and hopefully more people catch wind of this one.
