Henrik Zetterberg Could Return for Game 4 vs. Bruins

The Detroit Red Wings could finally have their captain back in the fold. Henrik Zetterberg has been penciled into the lineup for tonight's crucial Game 4 clash with the Boston Bruins at Joe Louis Arena. The 33-year-old Swede is still a game-time decision, but according to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, his teammates believe he will suit up and play. Zetterberg has been out for about 2 months after undergoing back surgery following the Sochi Olympics.

If he is able to go, his return comes at a perfect time as the Red Wings cannot afford to head back to Boston down 3-1 and he helps them in several areas of the game.

With Zetterberg possibly back in the line-up, he would give them a huge boost in offense, an area where they need the most help. Since pulling out a shocking Game 1 win in Boston, the Red Wings’ offense has been non-existent. In the series, the Wings have only scored twice and have been outscored 7-1 in the last two games. Zetterberg has always been a productive player in the postseason with 55 goals in 123 games, including 8 game-winners.

If Zetterberg centers his own line, he can match-up with either of the Bruins' top two top centers, Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, especially in face-offs. The Red Wings have been poor in the face-off circle with the Bruins winning 53.9% of the draws and Zetterberg’s face-off acumen will provide a huge upgrade in that aspect. Also, it allows Darren Helm and Riley Sheahan to be moved down the lineup, so they could be more effective against easier competition.

In addition, as one of the best defensive forwards in the game, Zetterberg can help the Red Wings' penalty kill. The Bruins have converted on 3 of their 8 man advantages thus far, so Detroit could really use his strong defensive skills to contain Boston's power play.

While it is unlikely that Zetterberg will be playing at 100% in Game 4, it's better having him at 60-70% than not at all.
