2014 NBA All-Star Starters Announced

Last night, the starters for the 2014 All-Star Game were announced, and all of the usual suspects are there. For the East, Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers) and Dwayne Wade (Miami Heat) anchor the backcourt with forwards LeBron James (Miami Heat), Carmelo Anthony (New York Knicks) and Paul George (Indiana Pacers). In the West, Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors) and the injured Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers) were voted in as starting guards with Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder), Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers) and Kevin Love (Minnesota Timberwolves) filling out the frontcourt.

The West has a much more traditional-looking starting lineup while the East has, essentially, three small forwards voted in. James and Anthony can play in the post, but Love and Griffin are standard power forwards. The revised voting removed the Center position from voting, lumping everyone into a "forward" category. Dwight Howard and Roy Hibbert were the odd men out. Both centers finished fourth in voting in the East and West.

There will be obviously be debate over the merits of some starters compared to guys that missed out, but the fans voted in who they wanted to see. Sure, Kobe Bryant has only played six games. He doesn't deserve to start in the All-Star Game, and he himself said so, but the fans voted him in instead of someone like James Harden. Dwayne Wade has missed a quarter of the Heat's games and probably doesn't deserve the nod, but he was voted there nonetheless.

That being said, you can definitely make the case for a few players that were left off. LaMarcus Aldridge is having the best season of his career and is a key reason the Portland Trail Blazers are one of the best teams in the Western Conference. You could argue that he deserves the nod over Blake Griffin. John Wall is leading the Eastern Conference in assists and is growing into the leader of a young Washington Wizards team. He could easily be starting ahead of Wade.

But you can take solace that these guys will be on the roster. The real arguments will come when the reserves are announced.

Again, your All-Star Game Starters are:

Eastern Conference
Guard: Kyrie Irving
Guard: Dwayne Wade
Forward: LeBron James
Forward: Carmelo Anthony
Forward: Paul George

Western Conference
Guard: Stephen Curry
Guard: Kobe Bryant
Forward: Kevin Durant
Forward: Blake Griffin
Forward: Kevin Love
