World Cup 2014 Groups Announced

In this article…

The 2014 World Cup Draw was just held and the eight groups have been finalized. The United States once again ended up with a difficult group, drawing Germany, Portugal and Ghana (which has eliminated the U.S. in the last two World Cups) in Group G. That appears to be the proverbial "Group of Death" that all nations obviously hope to avoid. Other difficult groups include Group B (Spain, Netherlands, Chile and Australia) and Group E (Uruguay, England, Italy and Costa Rica). There are much easier groups out there in comparison, and the USMNT will again face an uphill climb as it looks to advance.

But, if the US wants to prove it belongs, it will have to face off with these teams eventually and prove itself. It would have been nice to face easier opponents early on, but there's no point complaining about it now.

Here is the complete World Cup Draw of all eight groups:

Group A: Brazil, Croatia, Mexico, Cameroon
Group B: Spain, Netherlands, Chile, Australia
Group C: Colombia, Greece, Ivory Coast, Japan
Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy
Group E: Switzerland, Ecuador, France, Honduras
Group F: Argentina, Bosnia Herzegovina, Iran, Nigeria
Group G: Germany, Portugal, Ghana, United States
Group H: Belgium, Algeria, Russia, South Korea
