Best of the Week: 10/26 - 11/1

Best of the Week is our wrap-up of the coolest things that happened in the world of sports, music, movies and anything else we can think of. Here's what we liked this week:

The Boston Red Sox won the World Series. The Sox defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 and clinched the series in Fenway Park for the first time since 1918. David Ortiz was World Series MVP, and seriously, was it going to go to anyone else? The man batted .688 and was on base 68% of the time for a team that recorded the lowest team average for any World Series winner in history.

Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford. The Detroit Lions came back in stunning fashion to defeat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday (leading to some pretty ridiculous Dez Bryant freak-outs on the sidelines). Johnson had one of the best games a wide receiver has ever had in the NFL: 14 catches, 329 yards and a touchdown. But Matthew Stafford stole the show with his game-winning drive. Two incredible throws got the Lions down to the one-yard line, and instead of spiking the ball to stop the clock Stafford took the snap and leapt over the line for the winning score. That's moxie, my friends.

The Arcade Fire Released Reflektor. One of the most highly-anticipated albums of the year, Reflektor lived up to the hype. The album contains so much groove (an excellent byproduct of working with James Murphy), but it also doesn't deviate from the complexity and emotional nature that we've come to expect from this group.

Also dropping this week: Sky Ferreira, Night Time, My Time; Yuna, Nocturnal; Death Cab For Cutie, Transatlanticism (10th Anniversary Edition) (More on this next week).

"Love Game" ft. Kendrick Lamar. Eminem put out another new track, this one featuring Kendrick Lamar (who is just everywhere these days). It's one of several tracks that have put out in the anticipation of his latest album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, and it is quite good. K. Dot's verse is pretty insane.

Action Bronson drops "Practice." We're big fans of Big Body here at CHARGED.fm, and we were delighted when some new Bronson dropped this week in the form of "Practice." It starts out sampling Allen Iverson's choice quote about "practicing" before sliding into some soulful horns and Bronson's signature flow and food-influenced lyrics.

If that weren't good enough, the mixtape the song appears on Blue Chips 2  (produced by Party Supplies) is available to stream at Noisey.

Allen Iverson Retires. It's not necessarily great that one of the most talented scorers the league has seen in recent years is now officially gone from the game, but it is great in the sense that we're all thinking about how great Allen Iverson was again.

The NBA is back. The 2013-2014 NBA season kicked off on Tuesday, and we've already had some insane performances. Dwight Howard grabbed 26 rebounds in his Houston Rockets debut. Chris Paul became the first player to record 40+ points, 15+ assists and 5+ steals since steals became an official stat in last night's win over the Warriors. Perhaps the most impressive performance came from Philadelphia 76ers rookie Michael Carter-Williams. He put up 22 points, 12 assists, seven rebounds and nine steals in the team's surprising win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday night. Those nine steals tied a franchise record and set a record for number of steals in a player's NBA debut.

X-Men: Days of Future Past Trailer. This two-minute clip couldn't have gotten me more excited about the sequel to X-Men: First Class

Halloween. Last night was of course Halloween, and there were some pretty amazing costumes on display. But the best costumes are routinely worn by babies, because that's just adorable. The winner, in my book, is Baby Andy Reid:
