Billie Joe Armstrong To Play Leighton Meester's BF

In this article…

Billie Joe Armstrong has landed his first starring film role opposite Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester. The Green Day frontman has previously played small roles in movies such as Riding in Cars With Boys and This is 40. He is now all set to star in the indie drama called Like Sunday, Like Rain directed by Frank Whaley

Meester is playing a struggling musician who ends up becoming the guardian of a 12-year old music prodigy and Armstrong will play her boyfriend in the movie, which has already begun filming in New York.

Apart from this, two Green Day documentaries are on their way as well- ¡Cuatro!, which will shed light on the band's writing and recording process, and Broadway Idiot, which will show how the band adapted its American Idiot album into a Broadway production.

Armstrong returned back onstage this year in March after graduating from rehab for substance abuse and we're glad to know that he is not only back on track but is also touring next year! The following are tour dates for the band's 2014 Soundwave Festival in Australia:

SATURDAY 22 FEBRUARY – Soundwave Festival Brisbane - RNA Showgrounds, 600 Gregory Terrace Fortitude Valley QLD 4006
SUNDAY 23 FEBRUARY – Soundwave Festival Sydney -  Sydney Showground, Grand Parade  Sydney Olympic Park NSW 2127
FRIDAY 28 FEBRUARY – Soundwave Festival Melbourne - Flemington Racecourse, 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington VIC 3031
SATURDAY 1 MARCH – Soundwave Festival Adelaide - Bonython Park, Port Rd, Adelaide SA 5000
MONDAY 3 MARCH, Soundwave Festival Perth - Claremont Showgrounds, 1 Graylands Road Claremont WA  6010

Also, check out Armstrong's acting skills in this hilarious deleted video from the movie, This is 40 and you are sure to wonder why the scene got cut:
