Listen: Kendrick Lamar's Killer Verse on Big Sean's "Control"

by Photo of Ross Bernhardt

The Compton MC called out all the rappers in the game during a vicious verse on this 7-minute track.

Kendrick Lamar just threw down the gauntlet on the rap game. His verse on Big Sean's "Control (H.O.F.)" that also features Jay Electronica goes hard and really doesn't hold anything back.

Funkmaster Flex debuted the track last night. It's over seven minutes of pretty tight rapping, but nothing got more attention than Lamar's verse. He starts off by saying he is going to drop bombs, and he does exactly that. He boasts early on, "I'm Makaveli's offspring, the King of New York, King of the Coasts, one hand, I juggle them both." Then, while he puts himself in the same class of rappers as Jay Z, Nas, Eminem and Andre 3000, he then spouts off against the "new generation" with this verse:

I’m usually homeboys with the same niggas I’m rhymin’ with/But this is hip-hop and them niggas should know what time it is/And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale/Pusha T, Meek Mills, A$AP Rocky, Drake/Big Sean, Jay Electron’, Tyler, Mac Miller/I got love for you all but I’m tryna murder you niggas/Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas/They dont wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas”

Damn. By the time he's finished, you really don't care what Jay Electronica has to say afterwords (even though he delivers a decent verse). Twitter and the social media landscape are going nuts over the verse. Here are the trending topics as of this writing:

Seven out of the top 10 all having something to do with the verse. I have to give Lamar props, though. The only way you become the best is by taking out everyone else, and he took the first step in doing that with that lengthy, brutal verse. I definitely can't wait to hear the response tracks from some of the rappers he named, though.
