Rain - A Tribute to The Beatles

A fun trip out for all the family

Whether you are a fan of early rockabilly, the psychedelic sixties, or pure and simple feel good beats, Rain: A Tribute to The Beatles can provide you with a quick fix of musical fun.
On a recent short stay in New York, i decided to kill some time and see a show on Broadway. Admittedly, i could have picked something a little more original and off the cuff; perhaps The Book of Mormon or How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. However, being the Anglophile that i am, i followed my British roots and was enticed by the promise of our country's favourite musical foursome.
I'm not really sure what i was expecting, but thankfully there were no cheesy storylines or over-indulgent premises as to how these cheeky chaps from Liverpool were united. Instead, the fab four simply performed the hits, with the accompaniment of a short film explaining historical progressions and the changing image of the band.
By the end of the show, men and women alike were on their feet, dancing and clapping; I was there on my own, and initially felt a little silly joining in, but soon i befriended two elderly women sitting next to me and we all had a boogie to classics such as "Twist and Shout" and "Help". The end of the show even included audience interaction as we all took part in a rendition of "Hey Jude"; my personal favourite.
As you would expect, the whole sharade was a little too theatrical, but you cannot expect the same raw, improvisation that one would find in a live gig; after all, they are not the real deal. However, the vocals of Steve Landes, Joey Curatolo, Joe Bithorn and Ralph Castelli were pretty convincing, and they had believable Liverpudlian accents to boot.
