USMNT Routs El Salvador in CONCACAF Gold Cup Quarters

The US Men's National Soccer Team was getting by alright without Landon Donovan, but the club must love having him back. Donovan has been a force for the US lately during their play in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, and he continued his stellar play yesterday. Donovan scored a goal and tallied three assists in Team USA's 5-1 win over El Salvador (you can watch the highlights below of the US dissection, where they completely overpowered El Salvador and scored some brilliant goals).

Donovan is playing on a team that consists largely of backups for the national team. These guys are looking to play their way on the the real club in time for more World Cup Qualifying games. Donovan is here proving he still belongs on that World Cup team, and he is doing a fine job of it. Although these teams are slightly diminished, Donovan is still just imposing his will. He's clearly one of the most skilled players the US has, and he is really starting to click in coach Jurgen Klinsmann's offensive system. It wouldn't be the USMNT without Donovan, and he is definitely playing like he belongs.

With the win, the US moves on to the semifinals where they will meet Honduras on Wednesday. The other semifinal consists of Mexico vs. Panama.
