The rock band reveals their first single off of their upcoming album “Mechanical Bull.”

In this article…

The Kings of Leon are back and better than ever in their just released single "Supersoaker" off their forthcoming album Mechanical Bull.

"Supersoaker" premiered on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show at 7pm (UK time, 2pm here in NYC). Brothers Nathan and Caleb Followill, drummer and guitarist/lead vocalist, respectively, stopped by the BBC radio show to premiere their new single and chat with Lowe about the album. Turns out the band recorded the album in their own studio, which they bought and built in Tennessee.

The single, truly, brings me back to KoL's first couple albums. Their dirty, southern rock influenced sound has returned. "Supersoaker," to me, sounds a bit like "Taper Jean Girl," which is absolutely, 100% not a bad thing at all.

Honestly, I love the song. I think that this return to their original sound was the best thing KoL could have ever done. Since their last album was good but not amazing, I've been waiting somewhat patiently for them to deliver new music and I couldn't be happier with this song.

Mechanical Bull is set to be released on September 24.

Kings of Leon will be performing the song on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Monday July 22.
