Best iPod Commercial Songs, Ever

From Chairlift to Franz Ferdinand, check out the best songs ever featured in iPod commercials.

Best iPod Commercial Songs, Ever

IPod commercials have always been a breed of their own. That black silhouette dancing around to some super catchy song has always been a weakness of mine. I've learned about many songs and bands from commercials, but no brand has racked up as many great songs as iTunes has, particularly for their iPod commercials.

This list will cover some of the greatest songs ever to grace iPod commercials, but we're going to avoid the obvious winners like Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" and Eminem's "Lose Yourself," Okay?

So, look back and reminisce about the iPod commercials that brought you to some of your favorite songs and bands over the years.

"Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" - Jet

Who doesn't want to dance around to this infectious song? This is probably one of the best of them all, and it's one of the earliest as well.

"1, 2, 3, 4" - Feist

This delightful commercial featuring Feist's first big hit helped the Canadian singer to attain quite a bit of popularity. The music video seen through the ipod even sparked some video parodies, as the dance became popular as well.

"Shut Up And Let Me Go" - The Ting Tings

This bouncy track seems perfect for the exact mood that iPod commercials were going for when they first started coming out: fun, energetic, and loud. It's also the perfect description of The Ting Tings, the chic duo behind "Shut Up And Let Me Go."

"What I'm Looking For" - Brendan Benson

This gem of a song was on the last release Benson put out before starting The Raconters with Jack White. While it's got quite a different sound from his then-future band, it's still very enjoyable in the at-home relaxing sort of way.

"Bruises" - Chairlift

This song isn't done complete justice in it's 30 second commercial. Go listen to it in full if you haven't before. It'll be echoing in your head for days, but in a good way.

"Jerk It Out" - The Caesars

Despite all the cutting and pasting of lines in different places for the commercial, this was still one of the coolest songs Apple ever used in their iPod commercials.

"Ride" - The Vines

This commercial is a pretty cute gimmick, and still manages to use the popular black silhouettes. There's even a super retro white iPod that'll really take you back.

"Flathead" - The Fratellis

Colored silhouettes? We're taking big strides here, Apple. If you've never heard this song, or even this band, you're really missing out.

"Technologic" - Daft Punk

Since there's currently a Daft Punk craze sweeping the nation (complete with action figures), this throwback seems particularly pertinent on this list.

"Walkie Talkie Man" - Stereogum

Another personal favorite on the list, this song is the catchiest of the catchy.

"Saturday Night" - Ozomatli

Another great song, with equally great dancing. "Saturday Night" is still one of Ozomatli's most popular tracks.

"Sparks" - Wynton Marsalis

Changing it up a bit, perhaps to appeal to an older crowd, Apple introduced Marsalis into the catalogue of artists featured in iPod commercials. The commercial even features a semi-silhouette of Wynton himself, something they did with very few artists.

"Around the Bend" - The Asteroids Galaxy Tour

Although these iPod Touch commercials were annoying, and pretty boring, they still managed to have awesome music. Exhibit #1...

"No You Girls" - Franz Ferdinand

...Exhibit #2.

"Short Skirt Long Jacket" - Cake

This classic Cake song is perfect for commercials. It's actually probably been used in other commercials before, though none come to mind. It did manage to become the theme song for "Chuck," if anyone remembers that show?

"Come Home" - Chappo

We're getting to the end, folks. These last three were all used fairly recently in iPod commercials. Still, they were awesome and deserve to be listed.

"Tongue Tied" - Grouplove

This was about the time when everyone started complaining that "hipster music" was taking over commercials. Here was iTune's contribution to that supposedly sweeping movement.

"Yeah Yeah" - Willy Moon

This particular song comes from an artist that CHARGED.fm saw in concert just a few weeks ago. It shows that even today, Apple is looking for the same type of electric and energetic songs that led them to "Are You Gonna Be My Girl?" by Jet so many years ago.
