Cowboys Release Defensive Lineman Josh Brent

The recent decision by the New England Patriots to let their star tight end Aaron Hernandez go stemming from his arrest and subsequent murder/weapons charges because it was "the right thing to do" has suddenly initiated a response within the NFL.

Specifically with the Dallas Cowboys.

Josh Brent, a Cowboys defensive lineman, was previously charged with intoxication manslaughter last December resulting in the death of best friend and teammate, Jerry Brown.

The Cowboys did all they could to keep Brent close with the team at the request of Brown’s mother. Brent received treatment for his injuries with the team. When the offseason began he was allowed to work out; however, he never took the field in an offseason practice.

After Brent failed his second drug test and was put back in jail and on Thursday, and the Cowboys released him feeling they can no longer trust him.

Brent had a bond hearing scheduled for July 19 when the Dallas DA said he failed a drug test in late May. Brent has his trial for the intoxication manslaughter charge scheduled for September 23.
