Only one American remains at Wimbledon as Fish advances, Williams sisters and Wozniacki all fall.

Mardy Fish Advances to Quarterfinals Amid Several Round 4 Upsets

Raise your hand if you said Mardy Fish would be the only American tennis player in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon this year.  I don't think anyone expected Fish to be the last man standing, but he looked impressive in his straight-set victory over sixth-seeded Tomas Berdych.

Fish, the ninth-ranked player in the world, has only been broken once this tournament and defeated Berdych 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, 6-4.  He's actually ranked higher than the more well-known Andy Roddick, and has never won a major.  This is also the first time he has reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.  The road doesn't get easier from here for Fish.  He will face the winner of the Rafael Nadal/Martin Del Potro match, and then would likely face crowd favorite Andy Murray if he made it to the semifinals.

On the other side, several big names were beaten in the fourth round.  Both Venus and Serena Williams were upset, as was number-one seed Caroline Wozniacki.  This is another disappointing showing for Wozniacki, who has only reached one Grand Slam Final (2009 U.S. Open) and has been ranked first overall for 36 weeks.  It's a surprising exit for the Williams sisters, but their sloppy early play final caught up with them.  Look for them to rebound at the U.S. Open once they have had more time to recover from injuries.

With all of these big names out in the Ladies' Draw, my new favorite is Maria Sharapova.  But, this tournament is so wide open, I wouldn't be surprised if an unseeded player took home the title.
